Saving Money on Food at Walt Disney World

Article by Wdwdisneyworld

Between park tickets and resort hotel rooms alone, Walt Disney World is expensive enough. There is no need for the budget traveler to also spend premium prices on food if they do not have to. It is also understandable that you want to have some special restaurant meals while on vacation, so take advantage of these tips to get the best of both worlds while visiting WDW. There are a lot more discounts available than you might think if you are willing to take advantage of them.

One key fact to remember is that it is now essential to make reservations at any Disney table-service restaurant. It used to be unnecessary, especially in the off-season, but with the popularity of Disney’s “Dining Plan” and the Walt Disney World attendance rise as a whole, it is always busy. One little known fact is that Disney raises meal prices at several buffets and character meals during busy times. It normally costs around more (plus tax/tip) during these periods. While this has been taking place for years, it used to only affect Thanksgiving and Christmas season and only a few restaurants. However in 2008 the price raises grew to include Easter and part of the summer season along with most of the restaurants. Disney will not publish the times of these price raises but here is when they typically occur: 1) The weekend before Thanksgiving through the weekend after Thanksgiving, 2) The middle of December through the beginning of January, 3) Two weeks surrounding Easter, and 4) Late May through mid-July.

Walt Disney World used to have an unenforced policy that no outside food items were allowed into the parks. However, guests are now completely allowed to bring any food items that do not require heating. Also, bottled water and soft drinks are accepted. Be careful though because you will not be allowed to bring in hard-sided coolers, large coolers, glass containers, or alcoholic beverages. Additionally, for some reason no straws are allowed into the Animal Kingdom. If you do not want to bring in your own food, it is difficult to find an inexpensive option inside. However, the following options are the best. Inside the Magic Kingdom, go to the Main Street Bake Shop for breakfast including baked goods for -. For lunch or dinner, go to Casey’s Corner on Main Street for a large hot dog with cole slaw or fries for about or a side of chili for about . Grab a bowl of clam chowder at Columbia Harbor House for less than . Two people can split the half rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables at Cosmic Ray’s in Tomorrowland for about . At Epcot breakfast deals are rare but you can find a bowl of oatmeal at Sunshine Seasons for around .50. Spoodles Pizza will provide you with a slice for around which is not bad for theme park rates. Disney’s Hollywood Studios has Toluca Legs Turkey Company where you can get a chili dog for . Finally, at the Animal Kingdom you can enjoy a basket of cheesy bread sticks with marinara sauce for and small pizzas for . These are a few of the best deals you will find at WDW.

Overall, the best bet while visiting Walt Disney World is to take advantage of the fact that the theme parks now allow outside food and beverages. You can save a small fortune on daily food by preparing sandwiches, etc. that you buy at the local grocery store and packing them in a cooler the nigh before. You will work up quite an appetite from all the walking so be sure to pack plenty of food, snacks, and lots of water. Spending little on food throughout the day will allow you to splurge on some nice WDW dinners later that night.

Discount Disney Family Vacations – Tips for Saving Money on Food

Article by Nancy Bobby

My family is hooked on Disney World. And like most Disney-holics, we try to visit Walt Disney World as often as we can…but affordably! Learning how to plan a discount Disney family vacation has enabled us to do this and in this article I will explore some strategies that we use to save money on food.

Let me say that we find visiting Disney World to be a great excuse to eat! Lots of great choices, good quality in most cases, and the fun of trying new things, all entice us to truly enjoy eating while at Disney. Still, it can be very expensive, so we have found some ways to save money while still fully enjoying all the delicious options that Walt Disney World has to offer.

First of all, we signed up for the Disney Visa card, and we use the rewards dollars for our meals. Since we visit about once a year, by the time we go each year we accumulate a pretty sizable amount of Disney dollars to spend on food. Now, I am not advocating blindly running up a credit card (especially not in this current economic climate) but since we use one card for all of our basic purchases (and pay it off in full each month), it is a strategy that works extremely well for us. In fact, it works so well that in many years, I have paid hardly anything for our food on our Disney vacation at all!

Secondly, we absolutely love the Disney Dining Plan. For those not familiar with how this works, IF you are staying on Disney property, you have the option to choose from several levels of the Disney Dining Plan, and basically pre-pay for most, if not all of your meals. Since there are several choices, each providing a certain number of snacks, counter meals, or table service meals, there are options for just about any budget. As our family enjoys table service meals each night, we choose the Plus Disney Dining Plan, and receive one snack credit, one counter meal (entrée, drink, and dessert), and one table meal (entrée, drink, and dessert) per person, per day. We have found that the snacks generally work well most days for breakfast, and the others are used for lunch and dinner each day. Honestly, it is more food per person than we can usually eat, and often we will get our dessert at dinner “to go” since we are so full! And for this level at least, the cost per day for our family of 3 is usually less than we would have paid for just the dinner itself, so it is a huge cost-saver for us.

Of course, with all that food we are eating, we are fortunately doing a LOT of walking at all the parks to exercise it off! Saving money on food has been a great way to help us plan a magical discount Disney family vacation each year!

Nancy Bobby has been planning Disney World vacations for over 10 years, and has learned that you don’t have to give up your Disney dreams because you think it’s not affordable. Planning a Walt Disney World Vacation?

Article by Jeremiah W. Hughes

So, you and your family want to go to Disney World for vacation. That is wonderful news! Disney World has inspired the dreams and fantasies of children and adults for decades. One of the most fun things about planning a Walt Disney World Vacation is actually making the decision to go, and then making the plan.

We all have heard someone’s horror story about how terrible their Disney World Vacation was. Please, try to be subjective and try to learn from others mistakes. Millions of people have enjoyed their Walt Disney World Vacation, and you can too. The good news is that you are doing your research before you head to Orlando. Making a plan will give you peace of mind of what to do next and will help focus you vacation on enjoying your time away from the office and with your friends or family. With this in mind I would like to give four tips on Planning a Walt Disney World Vacation.

- How will you get tickets?- What is the best Hotel?- What about Food?- Are there Other Ways to Save?

-How will you get Tickets?

The easiest way to get tickets is to simply buy them from Disney World. You can log on to the Disney World Website and purchase tickets right on the website. There are also a few Disney Authorized Ticket resellers. You can do an internet search for the Authorized Ticket Resellers and it may save you a few dollars.

I do have a word of caution, BEWARE of ticket sellers outside of the Walt Disney World Resort who want you to purchase a used ticket from them. There is simply no authorized way for a Disney Ticket to be resold after it has been used. Buy new tickets and stay away from back room deals to get “cheap tickets.”

- What is the Best Hotel?

In my opinion, the best hotels for a Walt Disney World Vacation are on Disney Property. They have a lot of free perks that make your Walt Disney World Vacation so much more enjoyable. You will be completely immersed in the Disney Magic. You will have the quality that only Disney can supply. You will have reliable and consistent transportation to and from the parks. This perk is worth it, especially if you have little ones. All of the beds I have ever had inside of a Disney Hotel were top notch. This is welcome relief after a long day at a Disney Park.

You can stay at a cheaper hotel outside of the Walt Disney World Resort. This is somewhat subjective, if you do, I recommend finding a quality hotel with quality beds. You can find rooms just outside of Disney as cheap as .00 a night; however the beds, rooms, comfort, and quality will all be in question.

Consider this, if we both leave the Magic Kingdom right after fireworks for our rooms, Say that I am staying at the Pop Century Resort on Disney Property and you are staying at a hotel which is advertised as “just minutes away from Disney.” We both exit out of the same turnstile at the same time. I will arrive at my hotel by the time that you arrive at your car at the Ticket and Transportation center, and then you will have to drive 10-30 minutes to get back to your hotel. (Have you ever seen the traffic getting off world drive on to 192 west bound right after the Magic Kingdom closes? I have, it’s not just minutes, and it can be a long time)

If you like being able to escape Disney, then staying outside the park is a good option, just be prepared to wait longer times to get into the park in the morning, and to get out of the park in the evening. However, I highly recommend Staying inside Disney Property for the convenience.

- What about Food?

There is no way to really sugar cote it. Food at Walt Disney World is expensive. If you are on a tight budget, then I recommend what is called the counter service restaurants. These restaurants are basically fast food restaurants and they are the cheapest way to eat inside the parks. However, Disney has many “table service” food options. I recommend exploring the Walt Disney World website for all the restaurant options.

I have heard that Disney will allow you to bring a small cooler into the park. This is good news if you want to bring drinks, PowerBars, sandwiches etc. The bad news is that you have to keep up with a cooler all day.

- Are there other ways to save?

In a word YES YES YES. How you might say? If you purchase a Vacation Package from Walt Disney World you can purchase your tickets, food (remember the expensive food?), and your hotel accommodations in an all in one package. The biggest savings can come from adding the dining package. To your trip, it sounds expensive when you first get the quote but it will save you BUNDLES OF CASH and you will eat better. Typically adding the dining package will provide you a counter service meal, and a table service meal, and a snack every day of your trip. I highly recommend this. I have saved 30-40% on dining alone.A Disney World Vacation can be the best vacation of your life. If you will remember these tips you will be on your way to planning a Walt Disney World Vacation and enjoying the time that you will spend with your family and friends.

Disney Dining In Florida

Disney Dining In Florida

All Walt Disney World Resorts are fabulous places to visit, but they are also amazing places to dine. Whether it be a quick snack or a full gourmet dinner, you will not be disappointed by the choice and quality of fare that Disney has to offer.

Each theme park, water park and resort area has a vast selection of eateries for you to sample and enjoy, and as you would expect, depending upon your budget, you can eat for just a few bucks, or really push the boat out and savour the delights of five star cuisine.

Many of Disney’s restaurants are “themed”, and these are incredibly popular with the kids. Likewise, character dining experiences (aimed at younger members of your party, but enjoyed by all) are often the highlight of a child’s day. Well what could be better when eating your meal than to be served by Mickey, Donald, Pluto, or maybe even a real life Disney princess ? Of course character dining also allows you to capture some magical photographic memories too.

All to often, people get the impression that theme park food is going to be unhealthy food. Admittedly, there is fast food available in the form of burgers, hot dogs and fries, but you will also be pleasantly surprised to discover that the alternatives are indeed exceedingly healthy, and downright tasty too.

Our vegetarian friends are also well catered for, along with guests who have special dietary requirements, or those who cannot eat certain foods because of religious beliefs. Full details of the contents of all meals served on Disney property can be found by simply asking the cast member who takes your order.

And whilst a lot of food served throughout Disney parks is essentially “American” cuisine, a visit to Epcot World Showcase for example, will give you the opportunity to experience a vast selection of foods from around the world, ranging from Chinese, to French and even little known Norwegian delicacies, to name but a few.

Each Disney park that you visit has it’s own map so that you can find your way around. Clearly marked on these maps, and divided into categories are the dining experiences offered to tempt your taste buds.

So whether it be a full service restaurant, character dining, a quick takeaway or a healthy fresh green salad, you will find it all at Disney. The service is, as with all things Disney, friendly and polite, and it’s great to know that when those hunger
pangs strike, that you will be well catered for, in every sense of the word.
